Awesomeness: Missoula’s Rhino takes tour of 50 beers in 50 days

October 12, 2011 | Matt Pritchard

The Garden City’s most beer-obsessed bar has a new website called, simply, 50beersin50days.com.

The idea is straightforward, the blog will look at 50 of the Rhino’s beers and will tell a short story about each one through pictures, words and videos. There will also be interviews with bar owners, brewers and distributors. The beers profiled thus far include Framboise Lambic by Lindemans, Black Hop Rising by Sierra Nevada Brewing, Slow Elk by Big Sky Brewing and Black Butte Porter by Deschutes Brewery.

I love this idea.

A trip down memory lane and into Barrier Brewing Co.

June 28, 2011 | Matt Pritchard

I grew up in LaGrange, Ill., a suburb outside of Chicago, and one of my best friends back then was Craig Frymark, who lived three houses down from me. When I moved to Missoula in 1995 at age 13 with my family, we lost touch, as is bound to happen. Recently, through my parents and the wonders of Facebook, I’ve learned that my old pal Craig is now co-owner and co-brewer, along with Evan Klein, of Barrier Brewing Co. in Oceanside, N.Y. The brewery was recently featured on the Brewery Show and, in just more than a year, sounds like it’s taking off.

Having only been around for a year, Barrier Brewing Company is a young and powerful two man team, developing a vast portfolio of stylistic beers available in the New York City metropolitan area. With a strong focus on providing a unique approach to the craft beer industry, they are on the cutting edge of the craft beer wave. Visit with us as we find out what’s going on, and what the future may bring.

Wish Craig and and Evan all the best, cheers.

May 3, 2011 | Matt Pritchard

Can’t believe it is May already.

This month’s Big Sky Brewing “Brewsletter” is odd, but I found myself smiling during it. Mexican Lager and the Big Sky Brewing Summer Concert Series are the topics of interest. Check it out, it’s worth a view.

‘How Beer Saved the World’ premieres Sunday on Discovery Channel

January 28, 2011 | Matt Pritchard

“Without beer we’d probably still be living in caves.”

That’s a line from the documentary “How Beer Saved the World,” which premieres Sunday at 6 p.m. MST on the Discovery Channel. The film looks at how beer helped create “math, poetry, the Pyramids, medicine, labor laws and America.” Check out a preview and set that DVR.
