Great Falls Minor League Baseball team (and Chicago White Sox affiliate) the Great Falls Voyagers announced they will be hosting a brewfest featuring the musical stylings of Eddie Money. The event is creatively titled “Brewfest at the Ballpark” and takes place July 13 from 6 until midnight. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, May 23, and will set you back $40.

Breweries that are signed up to attend include Harvest Moon, Big Sky, Great Northern, Yellowstone Valley and Ninkasi. I assume there will be more breweries than that, perhaps at the very least Bowser Brewing Co. … at least I would hope. Check out the video above if you’re on the fence.

A friend of mine is part of the Grizzly Scholarship Association so I thought I’d pass this along to anyone interested in downing some beer for a cause.

Missoula’s Tamarack Brewing Co. is holding a Community Tap Night tonight (Tuesday, May 15) to help out the GSA. For every beer sold, 75 cents goes toward the organization. The event takes place from 6 until 9 p.m.

Here’s a little about the GSA:

Each year, Montana Grizzly Scholarship Association donors give The University of Montana the financial strength to educate deserving student-athletes and to build programs that we can all take pride in. We face the enormous challenge of rewarding dedicated student-athletes with scholarship assistance. The GSA has committed $1.4 million toward scholarship expenses for the upcoming academic year.

So this is a bit late, but like they say, better late than never (plus I’ve had finals).

The 20th annual Garden City Brewfest was held last Saturday at Caras Park as part the first Missoula Beer Week. I really need to remember to head over to these shindigs earlier. I always seem to show up around 4 or 5 p.m. and by then the good kegs are dry and the haze of alcohol has settled in on most everyone except me. Anyway, from what I saw there was a good turnout despite the chilly weather.

The Oatmeal Stout by Ninkasi Brewing and Big Sky’s Dortmunder definitely stood out for me. Opposite ends of the spectrum for sure.

The All Souls 2012 Easter Edition is set to be released this week, as I’m sure those who purchased a bottle at the Missoula Winter Brew Fest already know. If you missed out, don’t fret. You can still place an order by emailing christian.cryder@gmail.com, or RSVP (again by emailing christian.cryder@gmail.com) to attend the release party on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Bg Sky Brewing. There will be food (thus the RSVP) and music by Tom Catmull and the Clerics. Bottles of the 750ml Dark Tripel (rather than the Imperial Saison of the first release) sell for $14 and help raise money for Imagine Missoula.

All Souls Ale is back, and it’s better than ever! The folks at Big Sky Brewing Co. have brewed a brand new style for 2012, and the results are amazing – a daring Dark Tripel that marries Belgian yeast with bold American hops to create a truly stunning Easter Ale, loaded with hints of cirtus fruit. It’s a 10.8% wonder that’s fit for a king!

While it will be released in time for Easter, All Souls Ale can be enjoyed throughout the year (like wine it improves with age!). This is a very limited edition run (only 100 cases total!), and it makes great holiday gifts. Plus, ALL the profits help Imagine Missoula meet real needs right here in Missoula!
