I’ve had several British Columbia craft beer varieties in the past, but it looks like some of the breweries I knew have closed down. During the Olympics, I’ll be highlighting a few of the breweries,

but the only one I can speak about after having tasted their beer is Vancouver Island Brewing Co.

My wife and I have been to Vancouver Island and Victoria for several anniversaries, and we enjoy the area a lot. It’s very European in the layout of Victoria and prominence of tea shops. The pubs are no different, offering fresh fish & chips served in newspaper with malt vinegar.

Vancouver Island Brewing Co. is one of these locations with a great menu items and a fantastic beer selection. I’ve never had any of their seasonals, choosing instead to try their main selection

of production beers.

Hermann’s Dark Lager and the Hermannator, a double bock, are great examples of traditional German brewing techniques, and the Piper’s Pale is one of my favorites in that style. These are lighter production beers and are great if you’re going to be spending a day walking around downtown Victoria or touring the Butchart Gardens.

I’m not sure at the distribution level of Vancouver Island Brewing Co., but if you get a chance to pick some up while you’re in B.C. for the Olympics or at another time, do so.
