Mikkeller Frelser

Monks of medieval Europe often brewed a beer called Salvator, a strong beer, to survive the fasting of Lent. While it’s difficult to know how strong it was, it was likely a big-bodied beer that would later influence the brewing of Bocks and Doppelbocks.

In the spirit of those old monk brewers, Denmark’s Mikkeller has brewed a Trippelbock that is supposed to actually make it stateside this year, according to a recent post on BeerNews.org.

The Trippelbock is called Frelser, which means savior in Danish, and is reported to be 11 percent ABV.

The Munich Helles Bock now on tap at Bitterroot Brewing, and it’s being described as a light German Lager Bock with a light honey and malty nose and big, grainy, malty and rich flavors with some light caramel and honey notes…wrapping up with a long malt finish. (7.37% ABV)

Thursday, December 17th: Danielle Oliver

With an Austrian mother and American father, Danielle Oliver grew up speaking German in the quaint ski town, Whitefish, Montana, and refers to Vienna as her second home. She first sat down at the piano at age 6, wrote her first song on Valentine’s Day at age 11, and with the support of a musical family, studied classical music into college. She finally diverted paths to create music from the heart, often tantalizing and brutally honest. Using her creative writing degree, Danielle’s lyrics are often complex, yet personally touching. She mixes the reality of life’s circumstances, her father’s passing, and love with emotional musical phrasing and technical piano skill. When not playing live at Los Angeles venues like Room 5 or Genghis Cohen, she can be found playing back up for musicians at Hotel Cafe. Currently, Danielle is compiling and perfecting songs for her debut release EP (when we aren’t working her too hard here at the brewery!), to be out 2009 which will include a few of the uploaded rough tracks: “Casualty of Me” and “Will I Like You?” ..This layout was handmade with love by the folks at My space or yours? MudSlide Charley plays the blues with gusto and humor. From a traditional guitar/harmonica blues duo to a grinding five piece, we carve out an original sound from the rich, fertile dirt of the Mississippi Delta. Driven by groove and loaded with spontaneity, MudSlide Charley speaks with raw conviction and gutbucket bravado to satisfy our souls and reverberate with our audience. Our music, at times, may not be pretty, but sewn in the fabric of our rough hewn and passionate approach resides emotional truths, raunchy innuendo and momentary salvation.
