Blizzard Ball and Watermelon Wheat

It wasn’t my first choice for playing softball in the dead of winter, but 21st Amendment Brewing Co.’s Watermelon Wheat in cans intrigued me enough to splurge on a six-pack for the mid-winter classic in Missoula, Montana.

I wasn’t the taste tester of choice though, that pleasure fell to my wife. I was sipping on Oscar Blue’s Old Chub, along with our intrepid captain, Fritz Neighbor. But Neighbor was debilitated by a heinous back injury during one of Saturday’s games, and he polished off my Old Chub for painkiller, I suspect, and so I was left with a few Watermelon Wheats to kill.

I’m not going to bash this beer. Contrary to the very nasty comments of my winter-sotfball-playing compadres. I found the beer to be light and lightly flavored with a watermelon-esque essense that was actually very user friendly. The wheat beer base was light and grainy, and the fruit added a really nice dimension to a beer that has been overdone in this country for several decades.

The Watermelon Wheat from 21st Amendment Brewing Co. is a great light beer in a can. The fruit isn’t overbearing or sweet, which makes it far more delightful than some of the fruit beer alternatives.

Prost,

GG
