The Olympics and Beer V

We’re five days into these 2008 Olympics. Michael Phelps has won his eleventh career gold medal. The Chinese are cleaning house with some 26 gold medals of their own, Russian claims to have stopped bombarding Georgia, and Australia is fifth in the medal count.

Not that Australia’s ranking coincides with the fifth Olympics and Beer post, but I thought it might be nice to highlight a country that has had to watch Michael Phelps swim by them in nearly every race so far.

Australia: Captain Cook brought beer to Australia, but for most of its brewing history, it has been known for lackluster beers like Fosters or Victoria Bitter. Now, craft breweries have popped up around the country. Australians aren’t afraid to explore beer challenges. They brew one of the best alcoholic ginger beers I’ve ever had.

Gold: Premium Lager – Hahn
Silver: Premium Lager – Blue Tongue Brewing Co.
Bronze: Special Strong Ale – Red Oak Brewery

Prost,

GG
