Missoula’s fine beer culture

A friend from Seattle asked me why I live in Missoula if I like to write about beer. Shouldn’t I live in Califoregonington?

Six-months ago my answer would have been different, but not much.

Missoula is a hoppin’ town, ha, ha, ha.

But seriously, Missoula is a very beer-savvy town.

Here’s a very partial list that might surprise you and anyone else who thinks Montana is devoid of beer culture:

Big Sky Brewing Co. – the state’s largest and one of the finest regional brewers in the Northwest.

Bayern Brewing Co. – the only German microbrewery in the Rockie Mountains.

Kettlehouse Brewing Co. – locals-only taproom, beer with attitude, the place where you go to relive your best Western Montana adventures.

The Rhino – A killer draft-beer selection, the size of which can handle beers from around Montana and the greater Northwest. Forty of the fifty taps go to Northwest micros.

The Red Bird – Probably the best selection of bottled Belgian beers between Seattle and Denver. The beer list is longer than most restaurants’ wine lists.

Worden’s Market – Superb selection of bottled beers from around Montana and all over the United States.

Liquid Planet – Unique bottled beers from around the world as well as the right glasses with which to consume them.

Zoo City Zymurgists – An eclectic club with some great how-to videos. True beer aficionados who brew to drink.

Grupthink – Great online forum for discussing topics of any kind. Founded right here in Missoula, this social networking site is great for discussions about favorite types of beer.

Beertrips.com – The world’s number one beer-related travel service is located right here in Missoula. Want to try the beers of the world? Book your next vacation with Beertrips.com.

I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Missoula has an excellent beer culture that encompasses everything from home brewing to fine Belgian beers.

Anything you’d like to add to this list? Please comment.

Prost,

GG
