a friend sent me this blog as we have been discussing the micro distillery business quite a bit lately. I would be very interested in talking to any potential micro distillers in Idaho/Montana. If possible I would like to set up some time to visit your facility. After many years of designing distillation equipment, building/starting plants and making vodka and gins on a large commercial scale think the micro plants have a lot of appeal. I built and started up the Silver Creek Distillery in Rigby, Idaho. I am presently employed as Master Distiiller/Dir of Process Engineering for one of the largest Distillers in North America...while I have extensive technical background to produce these products I would like to discuss the reality/problems of permitting/licensing/marketing on this small scale

Just stumbled upon this blog. Looks like the last entry was 12/8/08, would love to head down to Bozeman and meet you Rough Stock folks. My partner and I are currently in the process of securing financing for our microdistillery, Montana Microdistillery LLC. We attended a workshop with the Dry Fly guys in Spokane, extremely worth every minute if any of you out there are interested in the distilling process and business. Our plan is to start up our distillery in Missoula, initially producing vodka and gin. We are working on a website and marketing. We did just buy a bottle of the Vigilante Vodka from Helena which is on the shelf at Grizzly Liquor, can't find any info about this distillery online, anyone have any info?

Anyone know of any progress with the local craft distillery industry in Montana? I have been doing some research over the past few weeks in an effort to learn more, and possibly get into this market. Found this site with a google search.

According to the TTB website, there are no operational distilleries in the State of Montana. I've heard and read alot about Vigilante, Red Lodge Ales, and a few others doing something but no licenses have been awarded. This, however, should change here really soon as I am in the process of getting approved.... and it's a real pain, let me tell ya!

Do you know if the Vigilante Distillery ever went through? I could not find any evidence that it did. I am working on a senior level project at MSU related to this, and would greatly appreciate any info that you may have. Please respond or email me at hawk1261@yahoo.com.

I would definitely be interested in supporting local and Montana distilleries - I love the Pendleton rye. I haven't heard of or seen the Vigilante in Helena, are there products for sale in Montana - Krysco? Can you buy for on-premise or packaged?

Since we are probably the closest distillery to Montana, we welcome Montana brewers to come to Spokane and check out our operation. Distilling, and the applicable laws, are way different than brewing, but those common equipment pieces do help to make sense of the transition.

Chances are you may see limited Dry Fly products in Montana in the next 2-3 months.
